Differences between Online Poker and Live Poker
Although the rules of poker are the same everywhere, there are some inherent and strategic differences between poker games online and off line poker games.
Bluffing
In online poker you can get away with a lot more bluffing than in offline poker. In live poker, you have to maintain the proverbial poker face, which is not necessary in online gaming. The strategy employed in online and offline is thus different. In the latter you have to be more aggressive when you have good hands and bluff less because you are more likely to be called.
Easier to find a good table while playing online
The strategy after sitting at a good table is to annihilate the bad players, which can be done by studying the statistics available and the average size of the pot. Most of these have players who bluff a lot and you can take advantage of that.
Look for tables where at least 40% of the players pay to see the flop
These tables are likely to have weak, passive players who are playing way too many hands and may not be conversant with concepts such as pot odds or position betting. Bad players generally have smaller stacks. If you see a table where at least 75% of the players are playing with small stacks, use it to your benefit.
Duration and style of play
In live casinos players spend 2-3 hours on a table. You are required to change your style from time to time to adapt to unique situations and to match your opponents' play. In the case of online gaming you can move on to another table and never have to spend more than 30-45 minutes on each table.
